![]() The rest of the wiring was pretty poor too.Īs chargers go, this one, had it been working, would probably have charged a battery but it definitely won't do it with any care or intelligence. I quickly found it had the same mis-wired mains lead problem (swapped live & neutral in the overmoulded plug) as the other engineer found with his 50P, clearly the manufacturer has "compensated" for it by swapping the wires at the charger end, proving that two wrongs can make a right! I'm guessing Röhr (or whoever actually manufactures their kit for them) had a wrongly wired batch of mains cables delivered, but decided to use them anyway! This was not actually the cause of mine's deadness though, it was the mains fuse (3A) which had one wire which has been put through the terminal but not been soldered as you can hopefully see from the photo. Mine was dead on arrival, hence why I took it apart, and I'm not surprised. There is no "intelligence" in it, just a transformer, a rectifier, a meter, a couple of fuses and a few switches! There is no control circuit board, no battery monitoring ability, no nothing. Please beware that this charger is the simplest of devices inside, and very poorly built too. I am only commenting on what I found with a DFC-10P. Excellent Charger, with Pulse Charge for reconditioning the Battery, good value, sturdy design and comes with Plastic Pocket Shield on the Front of the Battery Charger, (not easy to make out in the pics), for storage of leads.įirstly, this ad is for the DFC-10P so I'm not sure how the gentleman engineer is reviewing what looks like a faulty DFC-50P here? They must be different animals as his pic of the inside of his is way different to mine. Advice to disconnect Battery from car is really for the larger Amperage Rohr Chargers DFC 50 / 450/ 650 giving fast charge rates on commercial vehicle batteries. Disconnect the Black Cable, Disconnect the Red. When the Ammeter has settled to 1 or 2 Amps you can leave ON for a gradual trickle Charge to maintain long time Battery Charge if not in use or Disconnect. When the Ammeter has settled to 3 or 4 Amps you can set the Charge rate to Min. Select the Voltage, Select the Amps to Min, Ensure Power Switch, (at back of device on DFC10 and DFC 50) is Off, Connect to Mains Power Supply, Connect the Red Cable Clamp to the Positive Terminal on the Battery, Connect the Black Cable Clamp to the Negative Terminal on the Battery, Switch the Power Switch at the back to On, Watch the Ammeter settle and Select the Min to Max if necessary for Quick Charge. This ROHR Battery Charger is a capable device with safety features, powerful, and easy to operate. This is definitely not it, working or not! I won't be using it a lot even if I do get it working as I already have basic chargers and was hoping for something a bit better to have in reserve for reviving tired batteries intelligently and safely. It is a very basic charger, nothing more. The charging rate will probably reduce as the battery's own level of charge comes up but it will not stop charging when it's finished and there is nothing whatsoever inside it to help it to recognise a battery which needs special (and careful) charging techniques to stand a chance of safely bringing it back from failure. ![]() The rest of the wiring was pretty poor too.As chargers go, this one, had it been working, would probably have charged a battery but it definitely won't do it with any care or intelligence. ![]() There is no "intelligence" in it, just a transformer, a rectifier, a meter, a couple of fuses and a few switches!
